Sony's Spider-Man Universe hasn't always been the most critically acclaimed superhero world – just look at the response to Madame Web earlier this year – but the Venom films starring Tom Hardy have built up a fairly sizeable following despite the poor reviews.

And now Hardy is set to reprise his dual role as Eddie Brock and Venom in Venom: The Last Dance, which as the title suggests is being billed as the great finale to the saga that started with 2018's original and continued with 2021 sequel Let There Be Carnage.

These films have always boasted impressive casts and this time Hardy's being joined by Ted Lasso's Juno Temple and Doctor Strange star Chiwetel Ejiofor, while there's also a role for House of the Dragon star Rhys Ifans and the returning Stephen Graham.

Meanwhile, as with the previous entry, Hardy has a story credit alongside director Kelly Marcel, so the film seems certain to have his stamp all over it.

Venom 3 release date

Venom 3 is scheduled for release on Friday 25th October 2024, so not long to go at all!

It had initially been set for a summer release, on 12th July, but this was delayed as a result of the SAG-AFTRA strikes last year.

Previously, Hardy confirmed that the Sony sequel had begun pre-production back in February 2023.

He told Digital Spy: "These things [usually] come in threes. If there's going to be a new one – and they depend heavily on the success of each individual one, so you can't count on them ever happening again – every one has got to be as if it was the last one.

"But I think it's really important, if you go into something, thinking that one, two and three are the same... the same story, the same film. So that you don't surprise yourself by being caught out by suddenly having to do a third from nowhere.

He added: "There's got to be some continuity into a third and fourth and fifth, and if somebody says 'no', that's fine. Let it go, and you move on to something else."

Tom Hardy, of course, will be returning, and he's once again joined by a host of big names.

Those joining the cast this time around include Ted Lasso actress Juno Temple and 12 Years a Slave star/Marvel alum Chiwetel Ejiofor, who are playing a scientist and soldier respectively, each carrying out research on symbiotes at Area 51.

Meanwhile, House of the Dragon's Rhys Ifans stars as Martin, an alien enthusiast who Eddie and Venom meet on the road, and Andy Serkis – who directed the previous instalment – joins as the voice of Knull, the creator of the symbiotes.

The other major players getting a comeback are Stephen Graham’s Patrick Mulligan and Peggy Lu as convenience store owner Mrs. Chen, but there's no room this time around for Michelle Williams as Venom's ex-fiancée Anne.

The new film marks the end of Eddie and Venom's saga and sees them take to the road in order to escape the authorities after the events of Let There Be Carnage.

The official synopsis reads: "Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie's last dance."
